LA CARRERA DEL SIGLO º THE GREAT RACE

Hoy os proponemos un plan para esos días de manta y pizza o manta y chocolate, que tanto empezarán a repetirse a partir de ahora en los próximos meses de frío invierno. No está de más, recordar, de vez en cuando, a los grandes clásicos, películas de culto, en este caso, La Carrera del Siglo, 1965, de Blake Edwards, director de películas tan paradigmáticas como Desayuno con Diamantes o La Pantera Rosa.
La Carrera del Siglo es una de esas películas que hacen reír tanto a niños como a jóvenes y adultos. Ambientada en pleno cambio de siglo, finales del XIX y principios del XX, cuando el progreso y la ciencia no parecían tener límite, parodia los grandes logros de la época, las competiciones por convertirse en el estandarte del progreso técnico, aventuras del tipo de la primera carrera de automóviles entre NY y París, la más larga de la historia, centro argumental de esta película.

Esta alocada carrera de coches con salida en Nueva York, será fruto de disparatadas situaciones, aventuras, parodias brillantes, situaciones cómicas e incidentes que se irán repitiendo a lo largo de 2 horas y media de duración, en donde intervienen Tony Curtis como el Gran Leslie, prestigioso acróbata, dandy, galán, encantador, que siempre viste de blanco, también el coche, frente a Jack Lemmon, el Profesor Fate, cascarrabias, tramposo, egoísta, malhumorado, que viste de negro, igual que su coche. Como personajes secundarios, Maggie Dubois, interpretada por Natalie Wood, sufragista feminista, ambiciosa, inteligente, intrépida reportera que intentará cubrir la carrera para el periódico El Centinela. Y finalmente, Max, interpretado por Peter Falk, el archiconocido inspector Colombo, es el torpe ayudante del Profesor Fate, uno de los malos más cómicos de la historia del cine.

La fábrica Webber se propone demostrar la superioridad de sus automóviles, por ello, realiza uno, el mejor de la época, blanco, que será pilotado por el mejor atleta aventurero del momento, el Gran Leslie. Con el fin de demostrar la superioridad de sus coches, se organiza una carrera de Nueva York a París, donde no solo competirá Leslie sino también el Profesor Fate y su ayudante, Max, además de Maggie Dubois, sufragista feminista que presiona a los editores de diario El Centinela, para conseguir ser reportera y competidora de la carrera, pero hasta que la esposa del dueño del periódico no se una a la causa, no conseguirá sus objetivos. Fate y Max harán de las suyas para propiciar el abandono del Gran Leslie, sin embargo, las cosas se complican cuando, tras cruzar el Polo Norte, llegan al reino de Postdarf, donde el príncipe heredero Hapnik, resulta ser idéntico a Fate, viéndose éste envuelto en una conspiración que acabará en golpe de estado.

Joya de la comedia con las caídas y golpes de sus protagonistas que siempre arrancan una sonrisa, música sensacional de Henry Mancini con melodías que siguen el compás cómico de la película, Jack Lemmon y Tony Curtis juntos de nuevo tras Con faldas y a lo loco.
 Son muchas las razones para ver de esta película, por lo que no nos queda otra que, como diría el Profesor Fate a Max ¡¡¡Aprieta el botón, Maaaaaxxxxx!!!, pero, en este caso, del DVD y........¡¡¡ a disfrutar!!!

Jewel comedy falls and blows of their protagonists always start a smile, sensational music of Henry Mancini with melodies that follow the beat comic movie, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis together again after Some Like It Hot.
There are many reasons to watch this movie, so we have no choice, as would the Professor Fate to Max said  Hit the button Maaaaaxxxxx!!!!, but in this case, the button of the DVD and ... ..... enjoy!
