CASA EN EL MERCADO, SEVILLA ° HOUSE IN THE MARKET, SEVILLA

Mientras que llega y no llega la primavera a las puertas de junio, nos desplazamos al sur… en concreto, a Sevilla. Mi último descubrimiento ha sido la reforma de un apartamento en un antiguo edificio del siglo XIX. El proyecto lo firman el estudio de arquitectura Sol 89.
On the threshold of June, while spring weather tries to break through, we move out to the South of Spain... in particular, to Sevilla. I just discovered an apartment refurbishment inside a nineteenth century building. Project signed by  architecture office Sol 89. 














Los propietarios de la casa, obligados por una orden de ejecución municipal a reparar todas las patologías detectadas por la inspección técnica, deciden intervenir y comenzar ellos mismos la obra. Se lo toman como un hobby, trabajando en ella y en el proyecto al mismo tiempo, durante los fines de semana. Van desmontando falsos techos, derribando tabiques y descubriendo las posibilidades que el edificio oculta.
Bounded to agree to an order that requires the reparation for all the pathologies detected by the technical inspection, the owners of the house, decide to get involved and begin the work by themselves  working on it and on the project at the same time, during the weekends. Like a hobby.  Removing damaged ceilings, breaking down walls and discovering the possibilities that the building hides. 

Retiran la estructura que está en peor estado, descubriendo huecos que existieron en ampliaciones que se realizaron en algún momento pasado. Según los arquitectos, ‘casi sin darse cuenta, lo construido y el vacío se fueron asemejando en la misma proporción’.
Van descubriendo patios y pasajes, que forman parte de la trama porosa del centro de Sevilla. Son espacios sin determinar, pero que dan cabida a cualquier uso para sus habitantes.
They removed the structure that was in worse condition, discovering gaps that existed in extensions which are carried out at some point. According to the architects, 'almost without realizing it, which was constructed and the  were likened in the same proportion'. Discovering courtyards and passages, which are part of the porous fabric from the center of Seville. Spaces are not determined, however will accommodate any use for its inhabitants.

En el proceso, intervinieron dos albañiles, amigos de la pareja, que aceleraron la intervención. Todos ellos a modo de arqueólogos, más que constructores, fueron recuperando vigas de madera, bóvedas de cañón, continuando un proyecto y aplazando decisiones que quedaron así, con la intención de seguir transformándola en un futuro.
The process involved two bricklayers, friends of the couple, who accelerated the intervention. As archaeologists, rather than builders, they all were recovering wooden beams, barrel vaults, continuing a project and postponing decisions as well, with the intention to transform it in the  future. 

Desde la calle, los espacios de transición conducen a una sala de estar, con espacios a doble altura. Techos blancos contrastan con las paredes de ladrillo y los elementos estructurales preexistentes. La escalera une los diferentes niveles, que van buscando luminosidad y crear transparencias.
From the street, the transitional spaces lead to a living room with double height spaces. White ceilings in contrast with the brick walls and the pre-existing structural elements. The staircase connects the different levels, which are looking for bright creating transparencies. 

Cómo veis, además de ser una buena opción anticrisis, el derribo llevado a cabo por ellos mismos les fue descubriendo el potencial latente en un edificio. Unas decisiones constructivas acertadas, acompañado de una decoración sencilla y en tonos blancos, dieron lugar a una combinación de espacios abiertos, luminosos y muy relacionados con el contexto histórico y urbano de Sevilla.

As you can see, in addition to being a great low-cost option, they discovered the latent potential in the building through the demolition carried out by themselves . Right constructive decisions, accompanied by a simple and white decoration, gave a combination of open and bright spaces, very related to the historical and urban context  of Seville.
